Direct observation of rock macerates

Abstract

IN scanning electron microscopical (SEM) investigations of Precambrian sedimentary rocks, the risk of contamination during the preparation of rock macerates is extremely high. The technique described here and the use of stringent controls, have reduced to a minimum the degree of contamination by dust and microorganisms and, during preparation, enabled the recognition of artefacts from laboratory reagents.
