Gas streaming in 2U0900-40 and Cyg X-1

Abstract

Published photometric data on 2U0900-40 and Cyg X-1 are interpreted as evidence of gas streaming in these systems. The location and extent of the gas streams indicate that they originate from the accretion disk and extend to the far side of the primary. We suggest that large scale mass loss is occurring from the outer regions of the accretion disk as a result of radiative acceleration by a high luminosity component of soft X rays (ε 1 keV), and offer a possible interpretation of the radio observations of Cyg X-1.
