Abstract
EXPLOITATION of prostaglandin F2α (PGF2α) and E2 (PGE2) for the regulation of fertility in man and animals is limited by their side effects. Luteolytic agents which are much more potent than PGF2α, without being correspondingly more toxic, have been found among the many analogues of this prostaglandin synthesised in these laboratories, notably among compounds of general structure I (ref. 1). We present here results obtained with three compounds—ICI 79,939, ICI 80,996 and ICI 81,008—which illustrate the variations in biological activity in this series.
