Behavioural and physiological bases of drinking inhibition in water deprived rats

Abstract

FLUID balance is normally precisely maintained. Yet, following water deprivation, neither rat nor man drink enough water to correct the incurred fluid deficit. Fluid balance is corrected, however, when food is also made available. Adolph1 termed this phenomenon voluntary dehydration.
