Uranium in HR8911

Abstract

IN recent years there has been growing interest in analysing stellar spectra in order to observe r-process elements (which are synthesised by neutron capture on fast time scales). Cool Ap stars seem to be the most likely objects to display lines of such elements1,2. We report here preliminary results concerning some anomalies in the spectrum, which were obtained during analysis of the Cr-Eu-Sr peculiar star HR8911 (κ Piscium) and which show evidence for the presence of r-process elements in this object.
