Abstract
ORGANOCHLORINE residues in coastal and oceanic plankton have usually been measured using samples taken at irregular intervals and undifferentiated with respect to particle size1,2, so it has not been possible to relate the variance between samples to temporal differences in supply (or uptake) of contaminants or to differences in plankton composition. Here we describe the variation in polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) levels with particle size and time in Gulf of St Lawrence plankton.
