Interstadial Site on the Island of Lewis, Scotland

Abstract

A THIN layer of organic detritus found beneath glacial till in north Lewis has been radiocarbon dated to 27,333±240 BP. This dating is an important contribution to an appreciation of British glacial chronology. The significance of the organic bed is enhanced by its yielding sufficient pollen for analysis.
