Use of a New Detector for X-ray Diffraction and Kinetics of the Ordering of the Lipids in E. coli Membranes and Model Systems

Abstract

ALTHOUGH X-ray diffraction is the most powerful tool for the direct determination of structural parameters, long exposure times limit its use. Using a new detector we have been able to shorten the exposure times by several orders of magnitude, thus allowing study of unstable samples and of the kinetics of structural transitions. We have applied this technique to biological membranes and model systems.
