Late Quaternary Lake Levels in the Rift Valley of Southern Ethiopia and Elsewhere in Tropical Africa

Abstract

DURING the past 10 yr information has accumulated pointing to a late Pleistocene/early Holocene lacustrine period in East Africa and the Sudan Zone. On a visit to Ethiopia in January and February 1970 we made a reconnaissance study of the evidence for high lake levels of about this age in the rift valley south of Addis Ababa.
