Abstract
IN enzymatic nitrogen fixation1 the reducing agent, although comparatively weak, is strong enough to form hydrogen from water. Presumably metal ions (molybdenum and iron) participate in the process, the former in the activation of N2 and the latter in electron transfer from the reducing agent, for example, Na2S2O4, to the activated nitrogen molecule.
