Immunological Implications of Ultrastructural Studies of Goat × Sheep Hybrid Placentae

Abstract

THERE is ample evidence that conception takes place when female goats are inseminated with sheep semen, and that the resulting hybrid embryo fails to survive beyond the second month of gestation1,2. The cause of embryonic death has not been determined but previous studies have shown that all cases are associated with certain gross and histological abnormalities of placental structure, reflected in failure either to establish or to maintain a normal placental relationship3,4.
