Abstract
F2α is one of the several naturally occurring prostaglandins (PGs). It is present in relatively high concentration in the human uterus, and in menstrual and amniotic fluid1,2. Its precise role in reproductive endocrinology is the subject of intense research. F2α exerts antifertility effects in several species including the hamster3. The endocrine basis for this remains obscure, although decreased secretion of progesterone after a single injection of F2α into hamsters has been observed6. In this report we provide further evidence that this antifertility effect is brought about by the luteolytic property of the PG and is accompanied by ovulation.
