Abstract
SINCE the determination of their primary sequence the secondary and tertiary structures of tRNA molecules have been studied by various techniques (reviewed in ref. 1). In general, physical and chemical results, as well as the base homologies in different tRNA molecules, support Holley's “clover leaf” model2. There is also evidence of tertiary structure, and different models have been suggested3. Because both secondary and tertiary structures depend on hydrogen bonding, it should be possible to determine molecular conformations in solution by studying the hydrogen bonds directly.
