Crystal Structure of 18αH-Oleanane

Abstract

DISTILLATES boiling in the range 340°–550° C contain molecular types belonging to the triterpane family, CnH2n–8 (ref. 1). So far the structures of three compounds, corresponding to chromatography peaks labelled E, F and H (ref. 1, Fig. 5), have been solved by X-ray crystallography using trial and error methods. Triterpane E has been shown to be a spiro-triterpane2,3, while triterpane H has been shown to be a member of the hopane family.
