Production and Specificity of a Blastogenic Factor in Mixed Leucocyte Cultures from Twin Sisters

Abstract

WHEN human peripheral blood leucocytes from two individuals are mixed and cultured, large lymphoblastoid cells appear, the incorporation of thymidine into DNA is increased1,2 and a material which stimulates blastogenesis of allogeneic lymphocytes accumulates in the medium3–5. I wish to describe the production and characteristics of blastogenic factor in mixed cultures of lymphocytes from a pair of twin sisters and from a pair of unrelated individuals (W. and C.) whose cells consistently reacted only slightly in mixed cultures.
