Interaction between Guanosine Derivatives and Factors involved in the Initiation of Protein Synthesis

Abstract

Initiation factor C (f2) is specifically protected against heat inactivation by GTP or GDP. Interaction of this factor not only with 70S ribosomes but also with 30S subunits leads to a specific hydrolysis of GTP which is stimulated by adding both initiator codon and rRNA. Initiation factor A (f1) inhibits the GTP splitting by the 30S–factor C–initiation complex.
