Abstract
THE Earth normal mode spectrum, between 8 and 39 cycles per hour (c.p.h.), has been obtained with a 20 dB signal-to-noise ratio for a relatively small earthquake (Ms = 6.5), using a low noise broad-band vertical accelerometer of new design. The earthquake occurred in the New Hebrides (18.9° S, 169.3° E) on October 13, 1969, 06 : 56 G.M.T. at a depth of 246 km.
