Abstract
Delbrück and Reichardt1 have pointed out the possible potential of Phycomyces as an organism for investigating mechanisms of sensory perception. This fungus produces single-celled sporangiophores which are sensitive to light, gravity and stretch. It also shows an avoidance response which is a proclivity to grow away from solid objects. Either tropic responses or changes in rates of growth are produced.
