Abstract
DURING a survey of umbilical cord bloods in Malta a new foetal haemoglobin variant (Hb F (Malta)) has been found with an incidence of about 1.5 per cent. This is the first population in which a relatively high incidence of a foetal haemoglobin variant has been observed.
