Ribosomal Subunits and MS2 Phage RNA-directed Protein Synthesis

Abstract

In a cell-free system programmed with MS2 phage RNA, native 50S and 30S ribosomes are involved in initiation. After completion of a round of synthesis the ribosomes dissociate to yield 30S and 50S subunits capable of reinitiation. Reinitiation in vitro is associated with subunit exchange.
