Alignment of Interstellar Grains by Cosmic Rays

Abstract

The alignment of interstellar grains, required by the polarization of starlight, may result from the combined effects of radiation pressure from the central bulge of the galaxy, gas collisions and isotropic bombardment by cosmic rays.
