Abstract
A SINGLE sublethal whole body X-ray exposure of young female Sprague–Dawley rats results in the early appearance of mammary neoplasms1, the incidence of which seems to be linearly related to dose between 25 r. and 400 r. (ref. 2). Earlier comparative studies on the incidence of mammary neoplasms after irradiation with fission neutrons and 60Co γ-rays3 revealed that the incidence of neoplasms was significantly higher, and the life span considerably shorter, in rats irradiated with neutrons.
