Abstract
In vitro synthesis of ΦX DNA in extracts of ΦX-infected cells is at least in part the same as the normal in vivo process. It seems that a bacterial enzyme plays a part in the synthesis of single stranded DNA (both in vivo and in extracts), but that this enzyme is not simply the enzyme isolated by Kornberg from E. coli.
