Abstract
ON May 19, 1968, snow fell quite unexpectedly in many parts of northern Finland, and the snowfall was very heavy for another two days. On May 22, a layer of snow 20–30 cm thick covered the ground. It covered also the top of the roof of our neutron monitor building at Oulu. The snow had drifted and in places patches of snow 35–40 cm thick were measured. On May 23 the snow started to melt. On the following day, the part of the roof covering the neutron monitor and the newly installed meson scintillator telescope was cleared of all the snow—now thaw and 20–30 cm thick. Removal of the snow began at 11.00 h and the roof was cleared about an hour and a half later.
