Interactions between Chlorophyll and Water in the Solid State: Electron Spin Resonance

Abstract

ELECTRON spin resonance (ESR) signals in photosynthetic materials have been observed1–3, but their identification and significance in photosynthesis are still obscure. We describe here ESR observations on pure, solid chlorophyll a as a function of water, with emphasis on the dark signal.
