Abstract
FARMERS in the cacao region of the State of Bahia have known for some years of a peculiar tree which has a detrimental effect on the cacao trees which grow nearby. This tree is locally called “mata-cacau” (cacao-killer), and has recently been identified as a new species of Acanthosyris (A. paulo-alvimii Barr.), of the Santalaceae family1.
