Abstract
CHAUTAUQUA SEAMOUNT is one of a north–south trending group of seamounts 155 km west of the island of Kauai (Fig. 1). We1 described the magnetic and gravity fields of Chautauqua Seamount, and its age has subsequently been discussed (ref. 2 and personal communication from J. Francheteau, J. G. Sclater, M. S. Richards and C. G. A. Harrison). We conclude that in the light of evidence presented within the past year, strong arguments can be put forward for a Cretaceous age of Chautauqua Seamount.
