Methylation of DNA by N-Methyl-N-nitrosourethane and N-Methyl-N-nitroso-N′-nitroguanidine

Abstract

N -Methyl - N - nitrosourethane (NMU), CH3.N(NO).CO.OC2H5, and N - methyl - N - nitroso - N′ - nitroguanidine (NNMG), CH3.N(NO).C(:NH).NHNO2, are well known mutagens and carcinogens. It seemed likely that these compounds could act as methylating agents, and furthermore, methylation of DNA could be significant in determining their biological action.
