Abstract
5-Hydroxytryptamine produces reversible aggregation of human blood platelets and potentiates aggregation brought about by adrenaline and ADP. Within a wide range, these effects are inhibited in proportion to the logarithm of the time-interval between the addition of 5-hydroxytryptamine and the subsequent addition of another aggregating agent or of 5-hydroxytryptamine again. The evidence suggests that these actions are due to an association of 5-hydroxytryptamine with specific receptors on the platelet membrane.
