Molecular Interactions between Tryptophan and Nucleic Acid Components in Frozen Aqueous Solutions

Abstract

NUCLEIC acids exhibit specific interactions with nucleo-proteins and enzymes at different stages of the replication and expression of the cellular genome, and it seemed worthwhile to investigate the nature of such molecular interactions between nucleic acid components and amino-acids. This article deals with a study of complexes of tryptophan and nucleosides in frozen aqueous solutions. We have already shown that, in frozen aqueous solutions, nucleic acid derivatives and aromatic amino-acids form aggregates1,2. Thus freezing aqueous solutions may induce the formation of molecular complexes as a result of a close contact between two kinds of molecules.
