Abstract
CYTOTOXIC drugs are widely used for the treatment of malignant disease. Many of these agents are also powerful immunosuppressants, affecting both humoral and cellular immunity. Other antiviral defence mechanisms can also be affected by cytotoxic drugs; for example, the production of interferon can be depressed by actinomycin1,2 and puromycin3. Steroids have also been shown to suppress the production of interferon4.
