Abstract
MUCH attention has been paid to yeasts grown on hydrocarbons since Champagnat1 suggested their potential use as fodder-yeast. Few differences have as yet been reported to be induced in these yeasts by the hydrocarbons, other than an increase in their lipid content2,3. We wish to report a striking difference in the growth of Candida lipolytica when n-hexadecane replaces glucose as the sole source of carbon and energy.
