Inhibition of Gastric Acid Secretion by a Purified Bacterial Lipopolysaccharide

Abstract

LIPOPOLYSACCHARIDES from Gram negative bacteria produce many systemic toxic effects when injected into experimental animals and are thought to institute the processes referred to in humans as endotoxic shock1. They act by altering regional blood flow and leading to ischaemia in critical areas of the body, especially the mid-gut2.
