Abstract
THE relative amounts of the various forms of RNA—namely messenger RNA, transfer RNA and ribosomal RNA—in different cells and in different phases of the cell cycle would seem to be of the utmost importance and may provide a clue to the nature of pre-mitotic events in the cell1. Information along these lines is rapidly accumulating. Various attempts have been made to characterize these RNA patterns in several mammalian cell lines, namely, the blast cells derived from lymphocytes stimulated by phytohaemagglutinin (PHA)2, the HeLa cell3 and cells from a variety of pathological processes4.
