Abstract
WITH the view of analysing the part played by the lens during the morphogenesis of the eye, the following experiment was performed: lens primordia of chicken embryos between stages 16 and 22 of Hamburger and Hamilton1 were implanted into the optic cup of host embryos at the same stage of development. The lens primordium was placed through a section in the wall of the optic cup (at the level of the posterior chamber) by means of a rounded glass needle. The pupil of the host embryo thus came to possess two lenses—its own and an implanted one.
