Dehydrogenase Isoenzymes from Legume Root Nodules

Abstract

ALTHOUGH dehydrogenase isoenzymes, especially lactate dehydrogenases, have been extensively studied in vertebrate tissues1–4, there is little information available about molecular heterogeneity among plant dehydrogenases. During enzymological studies of root nodules from three different legume species, multiple forms of lactate dehydrogenase (L-lactate NAD oxidoreductase; 1.1.1.27), malate dehydrogenase (L-malate NAD oxidoreductase; 1.1.1.37) and glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (D -glucose- 6-phosphate NADP oxidoreductase; 1.1.1.49) were observed when the soluble proteins were separated by starch-gel electrophoresis5.
