Abstract
IT has been shown1–5 that the time of rise TR, that is the time interval between the minimum of solar activity and the next maximum, is a basic parameter for determining the variation of values of the various indices of solar activity (relative sunspot numbers, areas of the sunspots, umbrae and faculae, etc.) within each sunspot cycle and from cycle to cycle. Therefore, knowledge of the value of TR for future sunspot cycles enables a prediction to be made of the probable variation of the values of these indices of solar activity during the corresponding cycles.
