Abstract
PHOSPHOGLUCOMUTASE is present in human erythrocytes in different forms. Spencer et al.1 showed that polymorphism results from the inheritance of two autosomalallelic genes, PGM1 and PGM2. The homozygous state for PGM1 results in pattern 1, for PGM2 in pattern 2, and the doubly heterozygous state results in pattern 2–1. In the English population the gene frequencies for PGM1 and PGM2 are respectively 0.76 and 0.24.
