Abstract
STUDIES on the behaviour of two stored-products beetles, Carpophilus dimidiatus F. and C. hemipterus L. (Col., Nitidulidae), in humidity gradients prompted a consideration of orientation mechanisms. It was evident that some clarification of the generally accepted classification1,2 and its amended forms3–5 was required, particularly with respect to the definition and interpretation of the various components of kinetic responses.
