Abstract
WHEREAS thymectomy markedly decreases the incidence of leukaemia in rats1 and mice2,3, thymectomy performed at birth has been shown to increase the sensitivity of rats4 and mice5 to the oncogenic activity of polyoma virus. An analogous effect has been described for the development of visceral lymphomatosis in chicks after bursectomy6.
