Abstract
RECENT literature contains many examples of mammalian cell culture transformation mediated by RNA, DNA, and viruses. Most of these cell culture systems, constructed to detect transformation, differ in one or more general properties from bacterial transformation. The intention of this communication is to suggest and define two basically different kinds of transformation which have been observed in mammalian cell culture.
