Abstract
IN the course of determining phase equilibrium relationships1 in the systems Li2O–GeO2 and Na2O–GeO2 it was observed that both lithium germanate and sodium germanate glasses exhibit maxima in their refractive index-composition and density-composition curves ; in the lithium germanate glasses the maxima occurred at about 19 mole per cent Li2O and in the sodium germanate glasses the maxima occurred at about 16 mole per cent. Such maxima do not occur in the corresponding silicate systems.
