Evaluation of Colorimetric Methods in the Estimation of Sialic Acid in Bacteria

Abstract

NUMEROUS reports have appeared claiming the presence of the sialic acids in various Gram-negative bacteria1–9. In several communications7–9 the detection and estimation of these acids were made solely by the colorimetric procedure of Warren10. In others, a modified direct Ehrlich procedure was used1–5.
