Abstract
PREVIOUS investigations conducted in our laboratory have shown a parallel relationship between the in vitro oxidative-reductive depolymerization of hyaluronic acid and the in vivo ‘permeability’ changes of dermal connective tissue1–5. These results suggest that hyaluronic acid may play a part in the permeability of dermal connective tissue. Our investigations concerning substances which act as activators and others which act as inhibitors of connective tissue ‘permeability’ also have shown that a different effect is obtained using hypophysectomized and adrenalectomixed rats as compared with normal rats6. This result led us to investigate the content of mucopolysaccharides in the dermal connective tissue of normal and hypophysectomized rats in order to establish whether the amounts of these substances are affected by the pituitary function.
