Abstract
IT has been known for many years that the oocytes of most mosquitoes do not develop beyond the resting stage without the mosquito taking a blood meal1, and two types of yolk particles (macrospheres and microspheres) have been recognized in the developing oocyte2,3. More recently the larger yolk particles (macrospheres) have been shown by histochemical methods to be protein and carbohydrate positive and the smaller (microspheres) contain lipids4.
