Abstract
EXCITATION of Golgi tendon organs by direct electrical stimulation of human muscles produces an autogenous inhibition1,2 of 80–100 msec. In patients suffering from Parkinson's diseasethis inhibition is longer—up to 200 msec. We assume that this longer inhibition is due to the highly facilitated interneurones mediating the impulses from the tendon organs3,4, and that the tremor is the result of tension reflexes in a similar way to the stretch reflexes in clonus.
