Abstract
TRANSVERSE striation of muscle fibres in the heart has been known for a long time; but two problems in relation to this peculiarity of myocardium are not as yet solved. The first problem is concerned with the histochemical nature of transverse striation and the second with the functional significance of the individual components of myofibrils.
