Abstract
CELL material which is aspirated from human carcinomas through a fine needle consists largely of plugs of epithelial cells with admixture of interstitial fluid and variable amounts of blood. In earlier investigations1–3, the epithelial component was isolated by centrifugation for quantitative enzymatic analysis. The activity of dipeptidase and of acid and alkaline phosphatase enzymes was determined in cells aspirated from mammary and prostatic carcinomas. These values were compared with results from analyses of epithelial plugs aspirated from benign mammary and prostatic lesions.
