Tumour-enhancing Activity of the Active Principles of Croton tiglium L.

Abstract

THE potent tumour-enhancing agent croton oil (from the seed of Croton tiglium L.) has been used for many years in biological investigations of the cause of cancer1,2 and several unsuccessful attempts have been made to purify and to describe chemically the active components3,4. The isolation and chemical structure elucidation of pure compounds which are active tumour-enhancing agents is important since it will facilitate new and definitive studies on the mechanisms of carcinogenesis and cocarcinogenesis.
