Abstract
THREE papers on the mechanism of the vapour-phase catalytic oxidation of propene to acrolein have recently appeared from the Shell laboratories of Emeryville1,2 and Amsterdam3. We have been carrying out similar work in an attempt to discover something about the reaction intermediates. We have used labelling of the propene with carbon-13 and labelling of the catalyst surface with deuterium.
